Dis-moi ce que tu manges, je te dirai ce que tu es...² Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin As a complement to the design installations from Studio Gorm which play with the simple practicalities of the kitchen, a group of artists will transform the rooms adjacent to Studio Gorm with food related installations of a more surreal kind. Taking the style and functionality of these official spaces and turning it on its head, each installation will stand for one night only. Here design function is reversed, space is temporarily redefined, a new and very temporary liminal space will be created in the elegant upper rooms of the Direktionhaus. Here man tastes the world, introduces it into his own body and makes it a part of himself,¹ BHAKTIN. These installations will centre around a
performance feast, a conceptual dinner where people are invited to come and watch 15 invited guests as they are served the history of food in 7 courses, each course will bring a different object to the table, each object explores our relationship with what we eat and how we eat it. Civilization cannot begin until a food supply is assured. If you do not eat, you die, and no matter how large your dinner you will soon be hungry again. Food is the great necessity to which we must all submit. The preparation that we put into food and the rituals surrounding its consumption are two of the primary ways by which we measure civilization. Ye shall not surely die for god doth know that that in the day ye eat thereof your eyes shall be opened¹ GENESIS.
