Alexander Pelikan

Alexander Pelikan head of PeLiDesign, an international design studio and a producer of great concepts and extraordinary products.
With our team we embark on your projects! Apart from serving our clients we initiate design research projects. PeLiDesign is about truth: we love to show the inner beauty of things. Because of that we are interested in long lasting relationships with our customers and clients.
PeLiDesign was established in 2005 by Alexander Pelikan, Dutch designer of German origin and is based in Eindhoven, the Netherlands.
PeLi about creating:
‘By designing I want to explore new roads and I want to be surprised where these roads take me.’
Experimentation with common and new materials and techniques for example is such a new path. Another one is working with dedicated craftspeople, other designers and innovative companies. While wandering these new ways ideas emerge which are transformed and integrated in my works. In my designs I am embracing coincidence – any detail could be of importance.
I often stroll together with friends through cities and nature for pleasure and input. Back home in my atelier all these impressions are crystallizing via experimentation into new forms.
When I am busy with an assignment or free work, I want to dive into the technique and I want to be able to make it myself or at least understand every single step of the creation…that is very important for me: to identify with “head and hand” with the stuff I create.
A Machine’s Perception
A scanner is only a human, in other words: machines are not that perfect as we see them. With the project ‘A Machines Perception’ a want to go to the fringes of automated reproduction .
A 3D scan is seemingly accurate but indeed it is very much subject to coincidence (we only think these processes are perfect) if you go to the technological frontiers the true nature or the essence of scanning are revealed.
After 3D printing the scans get touchable in a beautiful way.
Alexander Pelikan:
“In CLICFURNItURe I translated the ideas of the modernists into the digital age. The CLICFURNItURe is craftsmanship of the digital age - uniting pure function with material beauty.
The connection of wood (european cherry) and glass (pilkington extra Clear) became only possible by working together with expert craftsmen and by pushing the limits of advanced production techniques (CNC diamond milling). In a world where most products are mere sleek and shiny surfaces it became a necessity for me to recollect myself to the humbleness of craftsmanship. In CLICFURNItURe made from wood and glass, I show the power of what I call ‘digital craftsmanship’. Using everything that is technically possible and combining that with skillful handwork opened up new horizons to create exciting products.
To design a lounge chair and a fitting table was logical for me - while lounging and enjoying your leisure time these products tell their story best.
