The project Breaking the Mould proposes an experimental approach to the traditional techniques of glass making from Murano, Venice. Breaking the Mould are seven designers and a material scientist that teamed-up to investigate the possibility to introduce innovation in the production respecting the specificity of the Muranese tradition.

Breaking the mould started from a focus on the mould. Historically this is the key element of the Venetian production of glass and its features highly affect the characteristic of the final piece. We have been acting on the mould reinterpreting its role, to introduce relevant changes to improve different aspects of the production, respecting tradition.
