Maarten graduated in 2002 from the Design Academy Eindhoven, within the Man and Living department (senior lecturer Gijs Bakker, director Li Edelkoort). More than 250,000 pieces of his graduation project, the ‘Open air’ cutlery, have been sold. This cutlery has been included in various renowned collections such as that of the Cooper-Hewitt museum in New York and has also been purchased by stars like Paul Smith.
Within the media field, Maarten Baptist also presents an imposing curriculum: with more than 1,000 publications in magazines and newspapers including Wallpaper, Forbes and the New York Times, with (annual) presentations at international design events, such as the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Dutch Design Week Eindhoven, ICFF New York, the Moscow Design Week, 100% Design Tokyo and with exhibitions in cities such as Seoul, Saint-Etienne, London, Hong Kong, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt en Como.

Continuing their line of dinner designs – already comprising of the celebrated Open Air Cutlery and the Wave glass series – JOINE presents the Magical Drip, Slow Cooker and Steam Pilaster. With these new products they challenge individuals as well as chefs to experiment with food preparation and presentation.
They aim to push the (dinner) table experience beyond taste. Maarten Baptist comments: ‘a designer should surprise people and make them discover new pastures.’ JOINE mainly create furniture and products related to food culture. A key focus when designing and producing new objects is to balance all facets of a product.
