Studio Appétit – Eating Observations

Working with desires and cravings in order to gain a better understanding of ourselves - what makes us tick, what is within us. It's basically all about one's appetite. Humans act by their appetite; an appetite for food, a sexual appetite or an appetite for knowledge. So instead of just designing or cooking, what we do is called APPETITING, using design to transform an object, ingredient or experience into an appetizing sensation. Raising questions about food culture, about why we eat, what we eat and how we eat, and observing the never ending roles of food in our lives.
The variety of projects the studio has produced range from hand crafted and industrial manufactured dishes, edible food displays, through unique cutlery which enhances emotions and interactions, to large scale eating installations as well as lectures and workshops.
Project: Most of us are not aware of what we look like when we eat. Though we have endless notions of how we should eat, table manners, and eating gestures, we rarely get the chance to actually look at ourselves while we eat.
During the Taste Festival, Studio Appetit's Appetitng Lab will unveil its new project, "Eating Observations". The studio has created wall mounted Eating Stations, that are made of birch, and include a large mirror and changing eating surfaces, where the user eats standing up, in front of a mirror.
This allows you to reflect on how you look like when you eat, why you eat the way you eat, and perhaps even practice different methods for eating. These stations also allow the user to experience dining with himself, reminding us that the interaction we create with others over food is social but it doesn't serve the biological process of eating.
In addition to exhibiting these stations, the studio will create three Eating Observation Sessions throughout the ten days of the festival, in each session, a different theme and a different kind of food will be offered to the participants, allowing them the observe and examine how they look like when they seduce with food? how do they look like when they eat healthy? and how do they
