Midsummer
Midsummer

Music, design, chilling out, food and fun by the beautiful Spree! In collaboration with Marimekko, Helsinki FRESH brought to Berlin the wonderful Finnish Midsummer atmosphere.
The midsummer or the summer solstice is traditionally celebrated in Finland on a Saturday between 20th and 26th of June. In the past bonfires were supposed to protect people against those evil spirits which were believed to roam freely during the midsummer day, when the sun was turning southwards.
Nowadays rituals include bonfires, cookouts, sauna and the possibility of spending time together. Heavy drinking is also associated with the Finnish midsummer.
In June 2012 Helsinki Fresh celebrated the midsummer at the Direktorenhaus in honor of this tradition with music, drinks, food and even a Sauna. That was a perfect way to recover from the Fête de la Musique held in Berlin the previous day.
