Claudia Biehne’s sculptures are sometimes playful, fragile and see-through, with willfully brittle edges, folds and cracks in the material, sometimes heavy, rough colossi with a structured surface and delicately arranged interior. The artist has done various exhibitions all over the world and won the Price of the Jury at MINO-Awards in Tajimi, Japan.
After her studies at the École des Beaux Arts in Luxembourg she learned the ceramics craft, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and finished her studies in Ceramics and Glass Design at the University of Art and Design at Burg Giebichenstein. Since she has found her very unique style and works in her atelier in Haus 10 on the former area of the spinning factory in her home town Leipzig. Her artisanal talent and her many years of experience with the material porcelain have enabled her to create in her Between the Tides series delicate objects that remind the spectator of creatures and plants from the sea and are cast so finely that the reliefs of plant parts shine through in the light. Her series Landscapes in the Mind on the other hand shows flowing, fragmented fantasy landscapes with allusions to outer space.
