The Spanish goldsmith Edu Tarin lives and works in Idar-Oberstein. He grew up in Valencia as a son of jewellers and was trained in the family business. During his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Trier in the field of gemstones and jewellery, he dealt extensively with the new technologies of jewellery design (such as 3D scanning and CNC machines).
Today he combines these with the traditional techniques of stonecutting. Edu Tarin’s works elude classification as jewellery and have a strong freelance artistic slant. They are characterised by strong colours and alternately clearly defined and linear, but then again very porous and organic forms.
His desire is to transform nothing into matter and emptiness into content, and to understand how technology, design and labour complement each other. Tarin uses both metals and precious stones for the production of most of his objects. Tarin draws his personal inspiration from the combination of different materials, but also from traditional methods and new technology. In 2019 Tarin received the “Preis des Handwerks” of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Crafts and in 2016 the “Talentepreis” of the Munich Chamber of Crafts.
