As indicated by the title of the exhibition “Materiality”, Benjamin Hubert exercises a materials driven design approach. Much of the studios inspiration originates from a tactile response to raw material and the experience of a close working relationship between product, process and craftsmen. The exhibition at Direktorenhaus articulates this distinctive approach by revealing a series of images, components, prototypes and materials, creating a temporal wormhole from the London based studio to the heart of Berlin. This will support a collection of new and earlier work from Hubert, which will be on display throughout the Direktorenhaus to highlight the narrative, values and design language that are fundamental to the young designers work. Hubert founded his industrial design studio, Benjamin Hubert in 2007 shortly after graduating from Loughborough University, UK, in 2006. In addition, between 2004-2009, both before and during the setup his design studio, Hubert worked for a variety of large design consultancies working in fields covering transport, interiors, consumer and packaging design.

Born in the UK in 1984, Benjamin Hubert studied Industrial Design and Technology at Loughborough University and graduated in 2006. The London based studio was founded shortly afterwards in 2007 and specialises in industrial design across furniture and lighting sectors working with international manufacturers across Europe and Asia. The studio works on a diverse range of projects including both mass/batch produced consumer products and limited edition/one offs. Benjamin Hubert has received international critical and media acclaim and has been exhibited internationally. Benjamin has also received a number of prestigious awards including: Design of the year (British Design awards 2010) Best Product (100% design/Blueprint awards 2009) Homes and Gardens Young Designer of the Year (Design Classic Awards 2010) and EDIDA International Young Designer of the Year 2010.
