Breaking the Mould brings together innovation and tradition in form of Murano-Glas-Objekten.

Various glass vessels in different shapes and sizes, including clear and amber tones, arranged on a white background.

Breaking the Mould are seven designers and a material scientist that teamed-up to investigate the possibility to introduce innovation in the production respecting the specificity of the Muranese tradition.

A large, reflective glass vase sits on a stone surface by the water, with buildings and a cloudy sky in the background.

Breaking the mould started from a focus on the mould. Historically this is the key element of the Venetian production of glass and its features highly affect the characteristic of the final piece. We have been acting on the mould reinterpreting its role, to introduce relevant changes to improve different aspects of the production, respecting tradition.

The exhibition presents a range of pieces in glass that witness an experimental process started in September 2011 and that is still in progress. The display includes one-off prototypes made using high-performative fabrics, wools and ropes, used together with wood and metal.
